WMS are a slot machine manufacturer who have secured a franchise to create and launch a slot machines based on Lord Of The Rings, the films
created by New Line Productions Inc. The slot is available in land-based casinos in Las vegas and elsewhere from Q4, 2010 and below is some
information on this version of the game. I know for a fact it's already out there at Spotlight 29 casino in the Coachella Valley so
presumably it's hit Vegas already too.
WMS categorise this type of slot machine as "Adaptive Gaming". It follows the concept of their excellent
Star Trek game
which I played at Encore in Vegas myself in late 2009. It has it's own special padded chair with surround-sound speakers
in the headrest, and if Star Trek is anything to go by, the Lord Of The Rings slot will be an awesome game! It totally immerses you in the
features and while you might need some aspirin handy, I've yet to come across an experience that quite matches it.
The WMS version of Lord Of The Rings sounds pretty feature-rich. Check out the promo video below for a run-through of what
it involves, but in essence it has stacked wilds and no less than 8 unlockable bonus rounds. The release coincides with
Microgaming's online release of the first in a trilogy of Lord of the Rings slots and although the two versions
clearly have similarities, they are totally different games so don't expect to find this version is the same as the
Lord Of The Rings online version. True, they both have stacked wilds, free spin
bonus rounds and borrow graphics and footage from the New Line films, but in terms of gameplay there are some
major differences.
While Microgaming's version is centred entirely on the "Fellowship of the Ring" film with two follow-up slots
due later, the WMS version of LOTR amalgamates all three films into one game. It has the Power Spins feature
to add a twist to the gameplay too along with randomly awarded Legolas and Gollum features that bring
extra wilds into play.
WMS Lord Of The Rings Promo Video
To see the actual slot in action it's worth hanging in there on the video promo above as towards the end
you get to see one or two quick shots of the reels. I'd love to be able to tell you how good the
WMS Lord Of The Rings slot is first hand, but I have yet to sit down and play it. But it looks
bloody awesome from the video LOL.
